The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
