The United Kingdom Ready to Utilize Seized Russia's Funds to Support the Ukrainian Defense

The UK is set to progress with employing the full worth of seized Russia's assets to support the Ukrainian defense operations, PM Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this unified step would heighten pressure on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge the Russian Federation to participate in talks.

They added that the decision would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.

United Kingdom penalties have frozen more than £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow initiated its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, previously, resources allocated to Ukraine using Russian assets had exclusively been drawn from earnings and returns generated on them.

Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and Germany were aligned in their goal to push forward toward utilizing the complete amount of the seized Moscow's national assets to end the war.

He added that further measures over the next period would apply more pressure on Russia.

This statement comes after EU representatives met in the Danish capital previously to consider using seized Russia's assets for a €140 billion financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, President Donald Trump urged Group of Seven partners to seize or otherwise use immobilized Russian holdings, as reported by news outlets.

The value of immobilized Russian assets in the European Union is assessed to be nearly €211bn.

Moscow launched widespread aerial attacks all over the Ukrainian territory on Friday, resulting in power cuts in many areas of Ukraine's capital, the city, and several other zones.

Two people were lost their lives and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the attack, the Ukrainian government reported.

In a post on social media subsequent to the attack, Zelensky commented that the premeditated assault targeted public and utility structures.

"What's needed is not empty words but firm measures - from the America, the European Union, and the Group of Seven - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and enforcing sanctions," he stated.

"Every sanction decision diminishes Russia's war machine," Zelensky wrote, in a separate post.

Additionally that day, Zelensky told media outlets he would encourage Sir Keir to participate in the weapons procurement programme, under which Nato countries purchase military equipment from the US to provide to the Ukrainian forces.

While applauding the UK's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he remarked it should demonstrate clearly that it would participate in the system, as well as apply further restrictions on Russia.
